American bass-baritone RYAN McKINNY has been praised for his “elegant and articulate” vocalism (Orange County Register), as well as a powerful voice that “drips with gold” (Opera News).
In the 2016/17 season, McKinny makes his Dutch National Opera debut in Pierre Audi’s production of Parsifal and sings Donner in Das Rheingold for his Boston Symphony Orchestra debut conducted by Andris Nelsons at Tanglewood. He returns to Washington National Opera as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Hawaii Opera Theater as Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire, Houston Grand Opera as Gunther in Götterdämmerung, and the Bayreuth Festival as Amfortas in Parsifal.
On the concert stage, McKinny sang the world premiere of Shostakovich’s uncompleted opera Orango with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Los Angeles Philharmonic and stage direction by Peter Sellars. He has also been heard as Zuniga in Carmen with the LA Phil under Gustavo Dudamel at the Hollywood Bowl, and he also performed the bass- baritone roles in Oedipus Rex for his debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Michael Tilson Thomas and the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Esa-Pekka Salonen in his final concerts as Music Director.
